How it works
X has no font menu, so each style swaps your letters for look-alike Unicode characters, such as the mathematical bold or script alphabets, or adds combining marks for strikethrough and underline. Type once, then copy the style you like.
The result is ordinary text, so it pastes into posts, replies, your display name and bio.
Where it works on X
It is refused or breaks in your @username, and search, which does not match styled letters.
X counts each styled letter as 2 characters, so styled text uses up your 280 faster.
