How it works

The formula

Bounce rate is the share of sessions that bounced: 420 bounces out of 1,000 sessions is 42%. The rest of the sessions, 580 here, stayed.

bounce rate = bounced sessions ÷ sessions × 100

What counts as a bounce

Definitions differ by tool. Google Analytics 4 calls a session a bounce when it was not engaged, while older tools counted any single-page session. Use the bounce count from the same report as the session count.
