How it works
From samples to bars
The file is decoded in your browser, then split into as many equal slices as the image has bars. Each bar runs from the lowest to the highest sample in its slice, across all channels, so loud passages stand tall and silence is a hairline.
Bar width sets the count: a 1500 px image at 2 px per bar has 750 bars. Samples beyond full scale are clipped so no bar leaves the picture.
bars = max(10, round(image width ÷ bar width))
PNG or SVG
PNG is the picture exactly as previewed. SVG writes one rectangle per bar over a background rectangle, so it stays sharp at any size and can be recoloured in a vector editor.
Sizes
1500 × 500 suits a SoundCloud-style banner, 1200 × 630 a link preview card (Open Graph), 1920 × 1080 a video frame. Custom takes any width and height from 100 to 4000 px.
