How it works

Choosing the cut

Drag the two handles on the waveform, type the start and end in seconds, or play and press Set in and Set out where you hear the edges. With a handle focused, the arrow keys move it by a hundredth of the file (at least 0.1 s); hold Shift for five times that.

Zoom in to place an edge on a single word; the view follows the playhead while it plays. Play stays inside the cut, and Loop repeats it.

Fades

Fade in rises in a straight line from silence to full level, and fade out falls the same way to silence at the end. Each can be as long as the cut, up to 10 seconds; where they overlap they multiply. The preview plays with the same fades you will export.

gain(t) = min(1, (t − start) ÷ fade in) × min(1, (end − t) ÷ fade out)

The file you get

The cut is copied sample for sample from the decoded audio and written as 16-bit WAV at the source's sample rate and channel count.
