How it works
Recording
Press Start and allow the microphone when the browser asks. The browser's own recorder compresses the sound as it arrives, in Opus (WebM or Ogg) or AAC (M4A), whichever your browser supports. Pause holds the take and Resume continues it in the same file.
The meter shows the loudness of the last few milliseconds in dBFS. A take that sits near the top of the bar is close to clipping; one that barely moves the bar will be quiet.
level (dBFS) = 20 × log10(RMS of the latest samples)
Echo and noise processing
On by default, echo cancellation, noise suppression and automatic gain are what calls use. Turn them off for music or when you want the raw microphone signal, then record again.
Downloading
Download the recording as the browser made it, or convert it to uncompressed 16-bit WAV, which every editor opens but is several times larger.
