How it works
Three ways to open a Markdown file
Drop a .md file anywhere on the viewer, press the open button, or paste the Markdown text into the source pane. Files ending in .md, .markdown, .mdown, .mkd, .mdx and .txt open as text. As soon as a file opens, the viewer switches to the full-width preview; Source and Split bring the Markdown back beside it.
Paste a link into “Open from a link” to read a file straight from the web. A GitHub page such as github.com/owner/repo/blob/main/README.md is turned into its raw file, and so are GitLab and Gist pages. Relative images and links in the file then point back to the repository, so a README looks as it does on GitHub.
Add ?url= and a link to the viewer's address to share a Markdown file that opens already rendered.
What it renders
The preview follows GitHub-flavoured Markdown: headings, bold and italic, links, images, ordered and bulleted lists, task lists with checkboxes, tables, block quotes, fenced code blocks, strikethrough and horizontal rules.
Every heading gets an anchor, and the first three levels make up the Contents list above the document, so a long README or spec can be read section by section.
Raw HTML in the file is cleaned before it is shown: scripts, styles, frames and event handlers are removed, so a Markdown file cannot run code in your browser.
# Heading · **bold** · _italic_ · [link](https://…) · - [x] task · | table | · ```code```
Keep or share the result
Download .html saves the rendered document as a single web page with its own print styles. Print or save PDF opens your browser's print dialog, where “Save as PDF” turns the Markdown into a PDF. Copy HTML puts the rendered markup on your clipboard for a CMS or an email.
