How it works
From pages to printed sheets
Imposition decides which page goes where on each sheet so that, once printed, folded and cut, the pages come out in reading order. Pick a layout, a sheet size and orientation, and the tool builds a new PDF with one page per printed side, front then back.
Pages are copied as vector content, not redrawn, so text stays sharp. Margin and gutter set the space around and between pages; Fit keeps the whole page, Fill covers its slot and trims the overflow, Actual size leaves it unscaled.
Booklets and signatures
Saddle stitch puts the cover and back cover on the outer sheet and nests the rest inwards, so one stack folded in half and stapled reads in order. The page count is padded with blanks up to a multiple of 4.
Perfect bind cuts the book into signatures of the length you set, each nested like a small booklet, to be stacked and glued. Creep shifts inner pages outwards a little to offset the thickness of folded paper.
saddle stitch: sheets = ⌈pages ÷ 4⌉, each sheet carries 4 pages per side pair
Duplex and crop marks
For two-sided printing choose the flip edge your printer turns the sheet on. Long edge suits a landscape sheet; short edge flips the backs half a turn so the two sides line up.
Crop marks are drawn only at the outer corners of the page block, away from the artwork, so they can be trimmed off.
